Hendrik:

You can get a FREE antivirus for Windows from several sources. Microsoft has one, but I use AVG. Here is a link to the AVG download: http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?part=dl-10044820&subj=dl&tag=button&cdlPid=11014801

I don't think installing CM3 will "damage" your system.

You will need some sort of C compiler/linker though because there is some C code that gets compiled and cm3 doesn't come with its own linker. I use the FREE Microsoft Visual Studio C++ 2008 Express Edition. Here is a link to the download: http://www.microsoft.com/express/downloads/#2008-Visual-CPP

I have some scripts in cm3/scripts/dev/windows that may be useful to you on Windows.

If you just want to get a working cm3 on your windows system, I could build you a minimal (or a full) distribution and ZIP it up and send to you. Then you would just unzip to a folder, say C:\cm3. There is nothing to "install" here that can mess up your registry. You will still need the Visual C++ Express to get the Microsoft Linker if you want to build any new programs.

Regards,
Randy

I'm somewhat interested in getting my programs working on Windows, but I
haven't yet installed *anything* on the pristine XP on my netbook. I'm
hesitant about connecting it to the net; the only antivirus I have is
refraining from using Windows, and it works fairly well(!). As far as I
know, I have no way of reinstalling Windows if my Windows is damaged.

I/m mostly interested in getting my software into a state where Windows
nonprogrammers can use it; I use Linux myself.

What would I need to do (from scratch; I'm not a Windows user; I just
happened not to delete Windows when I installed Linux)? The
machine is A 32-bit intel, and so it just might not be relevant to
testing 64-bit LONGINT.
