From dmuysers at hotmail.com Sat May 16 11:48:07 2020 From: dmuysers at hotmail.com (Dirk Muysers) Date: Sat, 16 May 2020 11:48:07 +0200 Subject: [M3devel] Compiling for Windows Message-ID: I am running Windows 7 Pro on an AMD64? desktop and the cm3-min-x86-d5.10.0-VC2015-20160102 compiler. Some months ago it worked perfectly, and now, having spent some time with other work, it refuses to link because "cannot open input file 'delayimp.lib'." Can anybody explain me why we must rely on GBs of MS's Visual monster just to link an M3 app.? There are enough free Windows compilers and linkers around (Pelles C, Go Tools for Windows, etc)? Ever since I had met Niklaus Wirth at Stanford, I used his and his followers' software (Oberon, Modula-2, Modula-3 etc) and I really have other things to do at my age, than to try to understand and find my way through the thicket of incompetent and mismanaged MS code. I compile to Windows only because it represents the majority of the OS and application market. M3, to be useful, should stand on its own feet and depend only on the OS runtime API of the target platform. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I'll remove them in git, if they are still there. It is a small optimization to avoid loading relatively unused .dlls, but not worth your hassle. However, that this .lib is missing, suggests your install might have other problems. - Jay ________________________________ From: M3devel on behalf of vvm at tut.by Sent: Saturday, May 16, 2020 1:17 PM To: Dirk Muysers ; m3devel at elegosoft.com Subject: Re: [M3devel] Compiling for Windows Hi! ( Dirk, I sent to You e-mail messages in 2019 ...) I have good cm3-all*.* 32bit for Win _with_ mklib.exe For CM3 Modula-3 full MS Visual Studio doesn't need. And linker.exe and some libs have relatively small size. ( How about ReactOs? It's "free Windows"? ) Best regards, Victor Miasnikov 16.05.2020, 12:48, "Dirk Muysers" : I am running Windows 7 Pro on an AMD64 desktop and the cm3-min-x86-d5.10.0-VC2015-20160102 compiler.
