<P>I would have expected better here too. I am certain my editor is putting in carriagereturn-newlines, and I keep having to run dos2unix over files when comparing to CVS trees. I think cvs itself gave me one tree full of newlines and the other full of carriagereturn-newlines. Maybe it was different versions of cvs, maybe one I had built myself (it'd be nice to build one's own system as much from source as possible...) cvs diff was showing everything having changed, and running dos2unix over entire trees, not just files I changed, reduced the output of cvs diff and of what windiff sees as different between the trees.</P>
<P>cvs diff over the whole tree was being slow so I was using local windiff. This may have been due to a slow network. cvs diff over the whole tree has been faster.</P>
<P>The cvs model here is wierd. In other systems I have used, files are read only (using local file system attributes) until "checked out" and there is local state as to what is checked out, so diff is really fast. Perforce does let you attrib (chmod) the files if offline and then you do "p4 online" when the system comes back up. Perforce is really my favorite source control system..</P>
<P>I'll see if this stuff keeps happening..I will be deleting and re-checking-out my cvs trees as stuff is flushed and the trees have no more edits, I realize not the smartest way to work..</P>
