I neglected to mention that the new package, by default, uses the
old algorithms, although there will be constant-time slowdown,
because it decides dynamically on every call to do this.  Also,
there is a lot of instrumentation being executed.

To get the new algorithms, set TextClass.Old to FALSE.  You can
change this between any two calls into the package.
