Log message:
	When converting from/to the same thing, don't bother looking for it.
	When converting a zero length string, don't bother with additional setup.
	These are nice classic simple optimizations though will perhaps be wiped
	out shortly by a preference for forward slashes. (or possibly preserved
	by merely treating forward/backward slashes about the same)
