	more and less experimental changes for bootstrapping
	CM3_FLAGS can be used to pass -boot
	yet another attempt for one unified path syntax,
	will probably just end munging all the .m3ship files
	generalize check for "recent Linux" platform
	ie: ones that never had gcvm
