	oops: too aggressive
	restore parameters to be typeless
	turn off flag_split_wide_types
	caltech-parser broken otherwise
	(and this is preferable to significantly further pessimisation
	maybe let's fix the record fields first
	
	(There certainly is a problem here but it takes a
	long time to reduce, and probably also a long time
	to directly debug.)
