Log message:
	test for sign/zero extension of the return values
	of functions that return types smaller than 32bits.
	I'm about to change the code here: the AMD manual
	recommends specific sequences that are shorter
	or equal in length to what we use, but in 3 of the 4
	cases what we use doesn't match the recommendation
