You mean it's trying to _read_ df-k, which should have been created
by the packaging scripts? If so, it's my fault; it should not try to
read a file that isn't there. Or do you really mean it's hanging when
trying to create that file?

Creating df-k should be pretty straight forward on any POSIX system,
as long as the file system isn't corrupt.
