[M3devel] CM3 release engineering status

Here's the current status:

  * release branch created for 5.8
  * Hudson continuous integration and Tinderbox default checkout
    changed to the release branch by default (instances out of my control)
  * end of code freeze on main trunk (seems it never crossed the 0 degree
    Celsius boundary anyway :-)
  * commit restriction for the release branch:
    - contact me for including changes there
    - needed: CVS start and end tag exactly identifying the change set
      to be included
  * reviewed all package test failures and fixed them (for FreeBSD4 and
    AMD64_LINUX)
  * only known good target platforms currently are FreeBSD4 and AMD64_LINUX
  * need status for at least LINUXLIBC6, NT386, SOLgnu additionally
  * will try to setup more regression testing under my control during
    the next week(s)
  * RC2 postponed until end of next week... hopefully we'll know more then
