I use the following nasty hack to read XML (only):

http://www.async.caltech.edu/~mika/xmlparse.tgz

cit_util is probably compatible with the one inside caltech_parser
in the CM3 dist.  Not sure if it uses anything beyond the Debug
interface from there.
