[M3devel] recent build failures in Hudson

Hi Jay,

the recent commits seem to have negative effects on several build jobs.
Unfortunately, the Hudson's CVS polling was broken for some days, so
it may not be as easy as it should be to pin down the culprit(s).

Can you have a look (as you've made of the changes):
