-xarch specifies just the CPU architecture, whereas -xtarget specifies a
specific piece of hardware machinery. See

The OpenCSW GAR buildsystem has flags for selection already built. This
allows changing the compiler without the need to tweak flags for each
package. It may be useful for you as reference:
