Just to make life complicated, Debian has announced that the next release (squeeze, once it's stable) will have multiarch support (which means we'll be able to run 32-bit and 64-bit programs on AMD64), and that it will support both the Linux and BSD kernels. So Debian won't necessarily be a Linux system any more. -- hendrik
