Huh, wierd, a different seemingly recent regression.
That doesn't occur for me I386_DARWIN remoted to Cygwin/X.
Need to isolate it...try other platforms...?
Maybe I turned optimization off on my system (lately I've been doing everything with -O3 via
a local edit, but occasionally I undo that).


Imho the problem I'm seeing might have been there forever.
Definitely not fully understood yet.
I'll try PPC_DARWIN 10.4 as that is handy...
