Subject: some questions
From: Maksimiuk Darek <maxy at online.nl>

Dear All,
During last weekend I decide to give a try and play with Modula-3
language/environment.
I have installed the cm3 compiler and libraries on my WinXP box as
well as on this
little PowerPC based machine called EFIKA
(http://www.bplan-gmbh.de/output.php?PAGE_ID=124,
http://www.bplan-gmbh.de/output.php?PAGE_ID=135). Unfortunately,
this computer is no longer produced
but still available in some places for sale.
To get it working on the EFIKA I had to upgrade my Debian
distribution from Etch to Lenny, and
install the cm3 Linux PowerPC binaries. As far as I can tell, the
whole process went without any glitches.
This is the most important part (at least for me) - some questions ...
1. Is there any (non-Reactor based) development environment for M3
(emacs, eclipse, etc)?
2. Are there any active projects that use M3?
3. Did somebody benchmarked the cm3 compiler against C/C++ (I am
interested in the fp number crunching speed)?
On the daily basis, I am using Matlab, Ada95, and ... Active Oberon
(running A2 operating system from ETHZ).
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Darek
