[M3devel] should C backend output K&R, ANSI C, or C++?

Any preferences/rationale for C backend to output:


1) K&R C
2) ANSI C
3) C++



Even gcc now requires a C++ compiler to bootstrap.
C++ hypothetically offers us a chance for efficient exception handing.
HPUX/HPPA bundled C compiler is K&R only.
